BEST TIME TO GO ON A SAFARI IN TANZANIA

In Tanzania, there are 2 wet seasons and dry season. The wet season usually occurs from mid-March to early June for the long rains and from October to December for the short rains. On the coastal areas, the climate is hot and humid, as you move inland towards the highlands the temperature becomes cooler and temperate.

Dry Season in Tanzania

Generally, the dry months, late June to October, give better wildlife sightings, but they are also the most crowded months to visit. The country has low and high seasons in different areas at different times, due to the movement of the animals and the rainfall.

  • The wildebeest migration is best to be seen in the mid of July in the northern Serengeti, until the end of August.
  • At the beginning of November, you can see turn migration from Masai Mara to Serengeti.
  • In the morning and during the night it gets cold so we recommend bringing warm clothes for morning game drives during the months of June, July, and August.
  • Animals are easier to spot in the dry season since they concentrate around waterholes and rivers.
  • You may see only a few mosquitos because there is little to no rain. The sky is usually clear and most days are sunny.

Wet Season in Tanzania

In December, there is a short rain which makes national parks very green.

In January in February, usually there are no rains, there are a lot of animals, that are easy to spot. The game is more widely dispersed, at this time due to there being more water available, but can still offer rewarding safaris. Most of the animals give birth to the babies – as there is a lot of food available.

March, April, and May are the heavy rain months.

Except for March, April, and May, rains are mostly short afternoon showers and seldom have a negative impact on your trip.

WHERE TO SLEEP ON A SAFARI?

There are several options amongst which you can choose.

Sleeping in tents gives you an authentic, real-life experience. Usually, the guests set up the tents by themselves, with the help of guides. We provide you with clean sleeping bags, mattress to put below the sleeping bag, and a tent. If needed, you can bring your pillow.

Sleeping in tented lodges provides you more comfort, but still offers a unique experience of sleeping in nature. The tents are usually put on the wooden floor and here you’ll sleep in a real bed.

Benefits of sleeping in tented lodges: After having a wild and exciting game drive, it feels amazing to just relax in the bed, charge your camera and phone and go to a normal toilet. Most of the national parks have the option of tented lodges. While some are within the park (Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro) in others it is just close to a borderline. You’ll still fell asleep with the sounds of nature that’ll feed your soul.

Sleeping in luxury lodges offers a unique experience for your ultimate safari in Tanzania, often booked for special dates like honeymoon, engagements or moments when you want to treat yourself. Deep within Africa’s renowned Serengeti National Park, Four Seasons Safari Lodge welcomes you to a sanctuary of trademark comfort.

Benefits of sleeping in luxury lodgeSpend a quiet day lounging on the sunbed by an infinity-edge pool, watching elephants gather for a drink at a nearby active watering hole beneath the endless turquoise sky. Needless to say, this will make you feel special!

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES ON A SAFARI
